So they responded to my email. A canned response with zero detail I requested regarding what kind of add-ins the mag will have and what kind of incentive there is to get PiQ (by the way, it’s prounounced ‘peek’). Instead I got the following response:
Hello Jean Francois!
Thank you for your email!
All existing subscribers will have their remaining issues fulfilled at a two-to-one ratio of PiQ, meaning you will get double the number of magazines delivered straight to your doorstep! Please check out PiQ before canceling!
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Thank you and have a great day!
Kind Regards,
Marisa Kreitz
Now I know I’m pretty much Joe-Nobody on the Internet or pretty much generally speaking in day to day life, but Joe-Nobody is still a goddamn subscriber to a magazine that was costing him a fair share. Everyone deserves better than a canned response like that, especially since they sort of add a light insult-to-injury by saying ‘If I have further questions to contact them’.
THE QUESTIONS I HAD ASKED WERE NOT ANSWERED TO BEGIN WITH.
A new FAQ on their own blog site now states that transferring subscription from one source to another ‘is common practice when a magazine closes its doors’. I’ve never heard of this practice, and especially not in cases when promised-deliverable items are not being sent out, and the new subscription is undervalued compared to the old magazine. The official full-subscription prices have been posted on their site, but there’s a surprising dichotomy between what they charge and what they list on their blog. This 2:1 ratio of subscription does not match up in price with this 50% discount offer they’re giving new subscribers. The Canadian pricing of the magazine versus the American pricing is another perplexing thing, but I’m not really going to get into that.
I’m left kind of frustrated overall with this situation. The disappointment of the cancellation mixed in with being forced into a ’soft’ contractual agreement with a magazaine and group I do not know is a rather big turn-off. I have until April 1st to decide if I want to pursue a dis-sat/bait-switch with… No, sorry: rather PiQ has until April 1st to convince me that I don’t want to pursue a dis-sat/bait and switch complaint with VISA and get my goddamn hard earned money back.
This magazine better be worth it.

Pronounced “peek”? I was calling it “pick”.
Why don’t you just cancel and then re-subscribe to PiQ if it turns out to be okay? Unless I misunderstood, it seems to be cheaper to do it that way.
